Kim Bong Carpentry (“Làng mộc Kim Bồng”) was formed in the 15th century as people from Northern Delta, Thanh Hoa – Nghe An area moving to Cam Kim (“Cẩm Kim”) to settle and establish business. As well as the prosperous development of Nghe An Town, Kim Bong Carpentry had also grown up strongly. By the 18th century, the business was flourishing with three main groups: carpentry for urbanism construction, for households and for shipbuilding.

Most of delicate and beautiful wood carvings in the Hoi An was made by skillful and talented hands of Kim Bong craftsmen. Their reputation was even spreading to Hue Royal City. Kim Bong people were proud of the honor to contribute their talent to construct and restore many buildings under the Nguyen dynasty.

Due to historical circumstances, war, the carpentry in Kim Bong had gone down for a long period and at risk of being lost. Luckily, thanks to the efforts of the government and a few old dedicating artisans, Kim Bong carpentry has been “woken up” in recent years.

From Hoi An Ancient Town, the Village is only accessible by boat. Nowadays, Kim Bong is still specializing in carpentry for household building and shipbuilding. Together with the development of tourism, part of the Village has turned to fine arts carpentry.
